The Destination Seeker recently got the chance to speak to Amy Bizzarri about her new travel book. Amy is the author of The Best Hits on Route 66: 100 Essential Stops on the Mother Road. Here is what Amy shared about how her new book came along.
What made you decide to write this book?
I have always been fascinated by Route 66, which starts in my hometown city of Chicago. Yet I found that most books on Route 66 are difficult to navigate – much like the route itself! So I set off to create a book that honed all the sights on the Mother Road down to the 100 most-iconic, don’t-miss sights to see.
Yes! Several times! Last summer, I drove the length with my two kids. I have to say, I feel like my driving skills are top notch at this point having driving some pretty tricky segments of Old Route 66! Luckily, I live in Chicago, so I can set off on Route 66 whenever I please – sometimes I pack up the kids and we take a day to explore the route’s sites in Illinois.
I’m currently working on a kids’ guide to Chicago.
I would have to say Route 66! It’s a destination that’s so unique you can hop on and off at any time, take time to explore a specific segment, or even just make a day trip of some of the sights within a certain distance.
