If you’re in the middle of planning a Disney cruise, you may have noticed all the hoopla in regard to decorating your stateroom door. Doing so is currently all the rage. Keep reading, to learn a few tips on how to get in on the fun and make your stateroom door look amazing!
Follow Disney’s Official Guidelines
Before you do anything else, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with Disney’s official “door decorating” guidelines. As an example, you’re not allowed to use organizers meant to hang over the door or any type of adhesive. Damage to the door results in a $100 charge per incident. Make sure that you follow the rules so that you won’t ruin the fun.
Get Ideas on Pinterest
If you’re certain you want to decorate your cabin door, but don’t know quite where to start, turn to Pinterest for ideas. You’ll be amazed by what you find… seriously!
Lots of families decorate their door to honor their favorite Disney character or movie. There are so many to choose from, everything from Bambi and Lady and the Tramp from long ago to current hits like Star Wars and Avengers.
Maybe you’re going on a cruise to celebrate a birthday, graduation or anniversary. No problem, as far as door decorations go! It’s easy to find ideas centering around those specific events and more.
Consider Using Magnets
The vast majority of cabin doors are metal. There are, however, a couple of exceptions depending on the ship you book. Obviously, metal and magnets are meant for each other. That being said, take the time to shop around for the seeming zillions of adorable Disney-related magnets perfect for this purpose. You’ll find lots of options on sites like Etsy and even eBay.
If you’re crafty and have the time, consider making the magnets yourself. It’s the easiest way to customize a design that really says a lot about your family. It doesn’t have to be anything overly complicated. Something as simple as printing out the design you want (on cardstock), laminating each piece and attaching magnets to the back does the trick.
One of the coolest (and most affordable) things about opting for magnets is that you can use them over and over again. Frequent Disney cruisers do it all the time.
If you don’t have time to come up with a decorating plan, before you sail, stateroom door decorations are typically available at some of the onboard gift shops.
Don’t Go Overboard (No Pun Intended)
Sometimes, there’s something to be said about simplicity. Decorating your Disney cruise stateroom door is in not rocket science. So, don’t let it stress you out trying to decide how to “outdo” other cruisers.
Even something as simple as a cute name tag representing each member of the family is just as fun as a complicated design. Remember, you’re not going to be judged by the end result.
Decorating your stateroom door on a Disney cruise wasn’t always possible. Those days are over. And, honestly, taking the time to transform it into something special helps you find your room faster.
You don’t have to look for your room number as you make your way down the long corridor. On the off chance you forget which room you’re in, this is a real lifesaver! If you’re taking a longer cruise, (of more than a few days), you have the option of switching out your decorations as often as you like. This just adds to the fun.
So, get together with your family and decide how you want to decorate your cabin door or doors. It’s yet another magical aspect of the trip. Happy sailing!
